Hi! My name is Miranda Lenihan and I am a History student at the University of Mary Washington. My primary interest lies in Middle Eastern and Central Asian history, particularly the Middle Ages and Early Modern periods.
HIST 299 Project
My research project analyzed and compared three Timurid historians: Sharaf al-Din Ali Yazdi, Ahmed Ibn Arabshah, and Ibn Khaldun. Yazdi and Arabshah both wrote two of the most famous texts about the warlord Amir Timur, also known as Tamerlane. My research focused on why the two of them approached Timur’s legacy so differently in their writing, or why they chose not to write about him. My project found connections and comparisons between the three men and how Timur altered their lives.
